Minutes of the AGM of the Library Users Group held at the Old Bakehouse
on Tuesday 24 October 2000

Chairman’s
Report
Efforts on behalf of all has kept the library for Blackheath Village.It was agreed that the pressure must be maintained as the library was still vulnerable to closure.
Treasurer’s
Report
Gillian Gadsby reported that there was £667.75 in the bank at 24 October 2000. It was agreed to ask for a further years subscription from members (£5 pa) in order to keep and maintain a fighting fund for the future.
Election
of committee
The following committee members were elected:
Paddy Ross: Chair
David MacKilligan Vice-Chair
Gillian Gadsby: Secretary and Treasurer
Jim Betts
Tony Sainsbury
Further members would, if possible, be co-opted in the course of the year.
Future Action
Action which was discussed for the coming years included:
- Campaigning for longer opening hours (with professional staff primarily, although volunteers might be used)
- Monitoring Council policies and attending meetings (which David MacKilligan agreed to handle)
- Press Relations
- Liaison with other libraries and user groups
- Boosting of Group Membership (eg through Newsletters, a noticeborad in the library, publicity in Blackheath Society material)
- Encouragement of greater library usage (eg through open days for families, facilities for book drops which the library is closed)
- Participating in, or – if necessary – setting-up, a working party to consider the long term strategy for the library.
The Committee will follow up these points, and other ideas raised at the meeting.
