A message from the Chair
Parlez-vous Francais? (Can you speak French?)
I do not, but, for those who do, maybe they will be interested in the
French Club meetings on 20th October and 17th November in the
Library. For more information, phone Marion Hill on 0207 722 2965. Or
email: marionhill@blueyonder.co.uk

Vivien de Jacolyn has resigned from the committee to pursue her other
interests. She has been active during her time on the committee, helping
to arrange chairs for talks and sharing the minute-taking at committee
meetings. She will be missed, but everyone, I am certain, will wish her
well and every success for the future.

It cannot be long now before the Council announces its programme of
cuts, which may affect the future of Belsize Library. We must all remain
vigilant!

Recent events at Belsize
We’ve been privileged to welcome some fine speakers to Belsize Library
over the past months. For those who missed them, they were:

BOOKCLUB

A joint venture between Belsize Residents Association and Friends of
Belsize Library, this book club meets on the first Tuesday of the month
from 6-7pm.

Librarian Yasmin contributes hugely to the success of the club by
supplying all the books required by the members.

LIBRARY NEWS
Yasmin, our (relatively) new Librarian wants to be sure you know about
two interesting happenings coming up at Belsize Library.

GET ONLINE WEEK for improving your Internet skills - free workshops
on Internet searching and BBC Webwise mouse skills on Tuesday 19th
October. One hour long sessions from 10.30 and 11.30. Please book at
the counter.

And Yasmin has made a very wonderful connection with an organisation
which sends books to places in Third World countries. She checks the
books which are no longer being issued by the library against the books
which are needed by Betterworld Books and they are picked up by the
organisation without any charge to the library.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS AT BELSIZE LIBRARY - at 7.30 pm

Lane Books will talk about the Importance of Books, Bookshops and

14th December, to get us into a party mood, Beth Shaw, local historian
will return (following her hugely successful evening in June) to amuse
us with yet another lively verse play entitled “Picasso and the Spirit of
the 20th Century”.
